Things to Know About Dressing

How should I layer my clothes?

Layering adds depth and intention to your look. Start simple, such as a crew-neck sweater over a collared shirt or a denim jacket over a plain t-shirt.

To keep an outfit cohesive, limit yourself to no more than three primary colors. Typically, this includes a neutral base, a secondary tone, and one small “pop” of color via accessories.

Fit is the single most critical factor. Even an expensive suit will look bad if it is too baggy or tight; a properly tailored, lower-priced garment will always look more stylish.

Which suit colors are essential for every man?
  • Most experts recommend starting with Navy Blue (the most versatile for any event), Charcoal Grey (professional and adaptable), and Black (strictly for formal evening events or funerals).
  • Fair Skin: Best in dark, rich colors like navy, charcoal, or deep green to provide contrast.
  • Medium/Olive Skin: Very flexible; can pull off earth tones (brown, olive) and mid-blues.
  • Dark Skin: Complemented by lighter or bolder shades like beige, pastel blue, or even rich burgundy.
  • Spring/Summer: Opt for “low saturation” or pastel shades like sage green, beige, or sky blue in light fabrics like linen or cotton.
  • Fall/Winter: Choose deep, rich tones like maroon, charcoal, or olive in heavier fabrics like wool or flannel.
